Introducing Finca Harmonia

Welcome to Finca Harmonia, a vegan food forest and reforestation project in the northern Ecuadorian Amazon.

“Finca” is Spanish for “Farm”, so Finca Harmonia means “Harmony Farm”, both in the sense of co-existing harmoniously with the other peaceful beings who inhabit this land as well as in the sense of musical harmony – we have a profound appreciation for music and its ability to convey messages in ways that words alone cannot. There is also a third meaning: “Harmonia” is the name of a man who planted a seed of veganism in this project’s founder.

The intention here at Finca Harmonia is to create, reforest, and live in harmony with the land and all peaceful beings around us. We desire to live surrounded by a clean and healthy forest ecosystem, far removed from the vices of Babylonnoun: the entire matrix of the financial, legal, industrial, military, media, medical, education, entertainment, transportation, technology, religious, and virtually every other man-made complex, and to enjoy an abundance of nourishment that the trees provide as we reduce our reliance on “the system” as much as reasonably possible.

Finca Harmonia is a revolutionary, anti-establishment project founded on vegan anarchist principles. Rather than attempt the probably-impossible task of reforming other projects, we started our own based the Core Values of Amazon Restore. Our focus is on stewarding this land responsibly and upholding these values; we have seen what happens when projects lose their way and become “intentional communities” first and forests second (or third, or fourth…), and we plan to stay the course of fruit-based reforestation through whatever challeneges we may face.

…Challenges certainly do abound, especially in these early stages. Even after numerous invasions by chickens and cows who damaged or killed many young trees and tore up the soil, after record-breaking heat and drought, and after severe deforestation and fires drew dangerously close, we are still here. We do not give up. The Amazon Rainforest is being killed, and if the forest dies, we die. We must keep fighting the grass for the sake of all that is dicotyledonous and fruitful. Though our food forest is still very young, we see the beauty that surrounds us every single day: the flowers that attract birds and bees and butterflies, the multi-coloured leaves reflecting the rays of the sun, the sunsets that illuminate the Gran Sumaco volcano… This is a beautiful world, and it is one that we must protect.

Finca Harmonia exists as a no-bullshit approach to regenerative fruit forestry.

Finca Harmonia exists as a space where we are free to be who we are.

Finca Harmonia exists as a living manifestation of our values.

Finca Harmonia exists in opposition to the systems of oppression currently gripping the world.

Finca Harmonia exists in order to demonstrate that another way of life is possible.

Finca Harmonia exists in response to the inquiry “If not you, who? If not now, when?”.

Finca Harmonia exists because seriously, fuck this grass.
